Genealogy and family history
Many people are interested in their family history. Remember to ask family members for details, and there are several Council services with information which may be of interest.
The Local Studies Library
The Local Studies Library has many items of archived information such as old newspapers, maps and plans of the Borough, local census returns, rate books and local history guides.
You may also like to see the page entitled “Other sources of information” for further help.
The Cemetery Service
The Cemetery Office has an online search facility of all the burial records which have taken place in the cemeteries which are managed by the London Borough of Richmond. This can be useful to find out where someone was buried, their age and the date of burial. You can print a map of the layout of the cemetery, or purchase a map for £2 which will show you where the exact grave is within the cemetery. More information is on our page on family history.
The Register Office
The Register Office can provide information on obtaining birth, death and marriage certificates if these events took place in the London Borough of Richmond. You may like to visit our page on family research for further information.
