The Duke of Edinburgh's Award scheme
The Richmond Upon Thames Library Service volunteer program for students taking part in the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme is currently on hold due to the pandemic. Please continue to check this page for updates.
About the placement
As part of your placement at the library you would:
- Learn more about how the library works, including learning about the DEWEY system
- Help with shelving and generally keeping the library tidy
- Help customers find books and use the self-service machines
- Create a top 10 teen book display
Read the full role description (pdf, 327 KB).
You would also take part in two other library activities such as helping with a special event, assisting with Story Time or taking part in Chatterbooks, a children’s reading group. You could even come up with your own event or activity to take place in the library.
Please note that in order to be eligible for a placement you must live or study in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames.
We are now pleased to welcome students completing both the Bronze Award Scheme and the Silver Award Scheme. We cannot currently offer placements to students completing their Gold Awards.
How to take part
If you are interested in taking part complete the Duke of Edinburgh application form (pdf, 173 KB). You will also need to supply a letter of permission from your school or group.
Return your completed form and letter of permission either to your local library, via email to firstname.lastname@example.org or via post to:
