Marvellous Makers - Summer Reading Challenge 2024

The Summer Reading Challenge runs from Saturday 6 July to Saturday 7 September 2024 and is free to join.

This year's Challenge is all about creativity. Read six library books over the summer and collect a special Marvellous Makers sticker for each book read. Read all six books to receive a certificate and a medal.

Sign up at your nearest library.

Challenge events

To coincide with the Marvellous Makers Summer Reading Challenge, we will be hosting nine crafty events across three Richmond libraries for children aged 4 to 11. Join in with plant pressing, clay crafting and STEM Lego sessions for free at your local library. Then sign up for the challenge and read six books to earn your rewards.

Children must be registered with Marvellous Makers, Summer Reading Challenge 2024, in order to participate in these events. Registration is free of charge.

Plant pressing

Hapa Zome is a Japanese printmaking technique which involves smashing, pressing, and crushing fresh flowers and leaves into fabric to create images.

Find out which plants produce the best dyes and use them to create your own completely natural designs. Materials will be provided but if you have certain flowers or leaves, you’d like to try, do bring them along for some smashing fun.
