Bank holiday parking arrangements

Take special care where you park your cars over the bank holidays for the Christmas and New Year period:

Controlled parking zones (CPZ)

On Sunday 24 December enforcement of all CPZ bays that normally operate on a Sunday will cease by no later than 5pm or earlier where the signs on the street specify.

On Monday 25 December 2023 there will be no enforcement of any CPZs.

On Tuesday 26 December and Monday 1 January 2024, most CPZ bays will not operate.

The following CPZs will operate and will be enforced on the bank holidays:

  • Byfield Gardens, Barnes (part of Zone CB)
  • Bracken Gardens, Barnes (Zone Z3)
  • Richmond Town (Zone A1 part)
  • Hampton Court (Zone H)
  • Vicarage Road (Zone M1)
  • Elleray Road, Teddington (Zone Z1)
  • Ferry Road, Teddington (Zone Z2)
  • North Kew (Zone KC)

All CPZs will be in operation on all other days across the Christmas and New Year break as follows:

  • Wednesday 27 December 2023
  • Thursday 28 December 2023
  • Friday 29 December 2023
  • Saturday 30 December 2023
  • Sunday 31 December 2023
  • Tuesday 2 January 2024

Normal operation of CPZs will resume in 2024 from 2 January inclusive. Find out more about CPZ operation hours. This is a general guide - you should always refer to signs on the street when parking.

North Kew (Zone KC) and event zone operation

Event Zone restrictions will apply from 15 November to 7 January 2024. This effectively extends the daytime CPZ (Zone KC) that ceases at 4.30, to 11pm. The daytime CPZ operates as normal every day 10am to 4.30pm. Please note that the event zone will not be applied or enforced on Monday 25 December 2023.

Yellow line restrictions

Avoid parking on a yellow line, because yellow line restrictions can apply five, six, or seven days a week dependant on the area and can include the three days:

  • 25 and 26 December 2023
  • 1 January 2024

This is because yellow lines are situated at locations where parked vehicles could be a hazard or cause an obstruction.

Parking bays

If you leave your car in a parking bay that is only available for part of the day, you should check the signs carefully to avoid parking there when the yellow line restrictions come into force.

Driveways, specialist bays and dropped kerbs

You should not obstruct driveways or park unlawfully in specialist bays, such as doctors' bays and mandatory disabled bays. If you do, you might be penalised.

Also, you should not park across dropped kerbs. These are found on virtually every street corner and allow disabled people and parents with pushchairs to safely cross the road.

Motorists who obstruct driveways or park unlawfully in doctors' bays or mandatory disabled bays could also be penalised.

Parking charges apply at some sites so please check signs when you park in order to avoid incurring a penalty charge. All car parks will be open on the following dates:
