You can buy biodegradable sacks for garden recycling without subscribing to our garden bin collections service. The sacks keep plastics from contaminating the composting process.
We only collect garden recycling in Richmond-branded sacks.
Garden sacks are collected every two weeks. You can find your collection day by using our search tool.
Alternatively we have a printable calendar of garden waste collection dates for 2022 - 2023 (pdf, 102 KB).
How to leave your sacks out for collection
Sacks should be placed on your property at the boundary with the kerbside by 6am and should be clearly visible from the road.
We use blue sacks to help the collection crew tell them apart from ordinary rubbish bags. Use this bag if you wish to have your garden recycling collected.
Store your garden sacks in a cool, dark and dry place to help prevent them starting to biodegrade, and use them within 60 days of purchase. During hot weather the sacks may start to break down if left outside for over a week, so try not to fill the sacks too far in advance of your collection.
Purchasing garden sacks
