Over 50 women came together last Wednesday, 8 March, to celebrate International Women’s Day, which was held at The Exchange, Twickenham, and opened by Sarah Olney, MP.
Also in attendance were Cllr Gareth Roberts, Leader of the Council and Cllr Phil Giesler, Lead Member for Business and Growth.
The day themed ‘Breaking the Bias & Barriers – Embrace Equity!’ was hosted by Tessa Parry-Wingfield, who has spent a decade in TV newsrooms – reporting and producing national and international stories for ITN and Al Jazeera English.
Speakers included Sophie Procter – the founder of Munchy Play, who launched her business during the pandemic; Ann Chapman-Daniel co-founder of Minesoft and current Chair of the Richmond BID (Be Richmond); Samantha Bullock – London Fashion Week model and founder of SB Shop; Sarah Davidson, who worked in HM Diplomatic Service for nearly 30 years; and Samantha Goober, Head of Equality and Inclusion Projects at St Mary’s University.
Attendees took part in a ‘physical’ workshop led by dancer, choreographer and actress Laura Careless; were left breathless by Shelle Luscombe, Vocalist & Presenter, recounting her 50@50 challenges; and enjoyed some excellent networking over lunch!
