Community Ambassadors

Community Ambassadors are exciting volunteer roles that help connect residents to their housing association landlord.

About the role

We are looking for volunteers who are passionate about their community, have good listening and communication skills and want to make a real difference to their local area.

As a Community Ambassador volunteer, you can:

  • Connect fellow residents' views and share them with your housing association and the Council, raising issues and ideas
  • Bring positive physical change to your local area
  • Bring opportunities for your community to come together
  • Tell us what is important to your local community
  • Help identify the issues around your homes through estate inspections and help to bring about solutions
  • Work with residents to bring about projects that will benefit your community
  • Help bring a voice to those who would typically go unheard
  • Make sure your housing association hears from its residents

Read the Role description (pdf, 93 KB) to find out full details about the role.

To volunteer, you must:

  • Live in the Borough of Richmond upon Thames, and
  • Be a tenant of a housing association or a leaseholder whose freehold sits with a housing association

Ideally, we need a spread of ambassadors across the estates in the borough.

Experience required

You do not need any previous voluntary experience to apply. The skills you need for this position can be picked up from other experiences, including paid roles.

Time commitment

The time you spend on your role as Community Ambassador can be as little or as much as you want to put in. The initial training session is two hours. After that, you will need to spend time talking to your fellow residents, spotting communal maintenance issues needed from estate inspections and reporting those to your housing association.

How to apply

If you are interested in the programme and would like to apply, email housingcommunityambassadors@richmond.gov.uk with your name and phone number and a member of the team will be in touch to arrange a date and time for a conversation.

After the conversation we will contact you to confirm whether you have been successful.

Further information

The Social Housing Residents' Forum meets every three months and is a chance to share your views and meet other Community Ambassadors. We work to an agreed set of resident involvement standards as set out in our Resident Participation Charter.
