Garden waste sack collections must now be booked

From Monday 3 July 2023, garden waste sack collections must be booked by 12 noon on the working day before your garden waste collection day.

This change is to help reduce emissions by enabling collection vehicles to be routed more efficiently. 

Collections of up to 10 sacks can be booked fortnightly and will occur on the same day as rubbish and recycling in your street, so please remember to plan ahead. Check available garden waste collection dates for your street.

To book a collection, simply select and book your preferred day or call the contact centre on 020 8891 1411, or ask in your local library for support. 

Remember to tie any sacks for collection and present them just inside the front garden entrance by 6am on your booked collection day. If there isn’t suitable space to do that you can place them on the pavement beside the front boundary if this doesn’t cause an obstruction, but only after 8pm on the evening before. 

You can cancel your collection using the link in your booking confirmation email as late as 12 noon on the day before the collection is due. 

Please do not overfill your sacks as untied or split sacks will not be collected. 

To prevent your sacks decomposing, store them in a cool, dark and dry place and try to minimise the amount of time you store garden waste in them. 

We will only collect garden waste in the branded green sacks supplied by us (we will accept older versions of the garden waste sacks previously sold, check that the sacks are in usable condition before filling with garden waste).

There are no changes to our subscription service for fortnightly garden waste collections of 240 litre wheelie bins. If you book garden waste sack collections on a regular basis you may find that this wheelie bin service suits you better.

Garden waste sacks can be purchased online, at all Richmond libraries, at the Civic Centre in Twickenham and at Townmead Road Reuse and Recycling Centre (you must book an appointment).
