24 July 2025
The dedication and compassion of professional carers who support some of the most vulnerable residents in Richmond were honoured at the borough’s annual Dignity in Care Awards, held at York House on Friday 18 July.
Hosted by Councillor Allen, Lead Member for Adult Social Care and Health and the Chair of Richmond’s Health & Wellbeing Board with awards presented by the Mayor of Richmond and partner organisations, the event brought together professional carers, care and support, providers and council officers to celebrate the outstanding contribution of local care professionals and personal assistants who go above and beyond every day – delivering high-quality, person-centred care with empathy, respect, professionalism.
Councillor Piers Allen, said: “There are residents in our community who rely on the care and support of others beyond family and friends. We are fortunate to have such a caring, committed group of professionals who deliver that support with empathy and integrity, while upholding the dignity, autonomy, and individuality of those they care for.
“Our carers represent the very best of our community – offering the kind of respectful and compassionate support we’d all want for our family and friends.”
Richmond Council is a proud Dignity Champion, supporting the National Dignity Council’s ongoing campaign to embed dignity as a core value across health and social care. “Being treated with dignity is a basic human right – and the Council continues to champion that principle across all services,” added Councillor Allen.
The Dignity in Care Awards shine a spotlight on the individuals and teams making a real difference. Nominations were invited from residents and people who draw on services across the borough, with winners chosen by a judging panel for their care, creativity, and commitment.
Awards were presented in the following categories:
- Carer of the Year for Learning Disabilities and Mental Health
- Carer of the Year for Community and Day Services
- Carer of the Year for Home Support
- Carer of the Year for Older People’s Care Homes
- Ken Yew Personal Assistant of the Year
Di Manning, Assistant Director of Commissioning and Quality Standards at Richmond Council, who sat on the judging panel said: “The stories we read were deeply moving – from a carer who connects with the person they care for to explore nature and venture out more, to those who become like family to the people they support.
"These carers are not just delivering services – they’re transforming lives. Choosing winners was incredibly difficult because of the sheer number of dedicated, inspiring individuals making a real difference across our borough.”
Congratulations to all this year’s nominees and winners.
