Penalty Charge Notice costs
There are two levels of penalty charge amounts payable, depending on the type of contravention.
Serious parking contraventions
A higher charge is made for more serious parking contraventions that cause the most disruption and danger to pedestrians and other road users.
Examples of serious parking contraventions:
- Parked on single/double yellow lines.
- Parked in a disabled bay without a valid permit/blue badge.
- Parked where parking, waiting or loading/unloading is prohibited.
- Parked with one or more wheels on the footway.
Penalty Charge Notice levels:
- £130 applies to all 'serious' contraventions committed in Band A. You can reduce the charge to £65 by paying within 14 days.
- £110 applies to all 'serious' contraventions committed in Band B. You can reduce the charge to £55 by paying within 14 days.
Less serious contraventions
A lower charge is made for less serious parking contraventions.
Examples of less serious parking contraventions:
- Over-stayed in a Pay and Display bay
- Not parked correctly within the markings of a bay
- Re-parked in the same parking space within one hour of leaving
Penalty Charge Notice levels:
- £80 applies to all 'less serious' contraventions committed in Band A. You can reduce the charge to £40 by paying within 14 days (if issued by a civil enforcement officer) or 21 days (if issued by a camera operator).
- £60 applies to all 'less serious' contraventions committed in Band B. You can reduce the charge to £30 by paying within 14 days (if issued by a civil enforcement officer) or 21 days (if issued by a camera operator).
