Voting in person
Most people vote in person at polling stations, which will be open 7am to 10pm on election day.
You must be registered in order to vote.
How it works
Voting in person is straightforward and staff will be on hand to help.
- We will send you a poll card around a month before the election.
- Your polling station will be open between 7am and 10pm on election day.
- Tell the polling station staff your name and address.
- You will be given your ballot paper.
- Take your ballot paper into a polling booth and read the instructions carefully before marking your vote.
- Place your paper unfolded and facing down in the ballot box.
Accessibility
All our polling stations are accessible. Find out more about help available for voters with disabilities.
What are poll cards?
Poll cards are sent out to inform electors that there is going to be an election. Your poll card will tell you:
- The date of the election
- The constituency you are in
- Your polling station
Changing the way you vote
Instead of voting in person you may prefer to vote by post or by proxy. You will need to apply in advance for this.
